Schema Types

What is Product schema?

Answer

Product schema is a Schema.org type for individual products sold online or offline. It includes properties for name, image, description, brand, sku, gtin, offers (Offer with price, currency, availability), and aggregateRating. Product schema unlocks rich results in Google Shopping and is essential for e-commerce visibility in AI-powered search.

Critical properties for rich results

name, image (high-resolution), brand (Organization or Brand), offers with price, priceCurrency and availability (InStock, OutOfStock, PreOrder), aggregateRating with reviewCount, and review (Review array with author and ratingValue).

Common mistakes

Missing price or currency. Inconsistency between schema price and visible price (Google policy violation). Missing image. Using stock photo URLs instead of real product photos. Skipping availability.

How to verify

Validate with Google's Rich Results Test. Check Search Console's Products report for Merchant listing eligibility. Most e-commerce platforms (Shopify, WooCommerce, BigCommerce) ship Product schema by default but custom builds often need to add it manually.
