Schema Types

What is Review schema?

Answer

Review schema is a Schema.org type for individual reviews. It includes properties for itemReviewed (the thing being reviewed), reviewRating (a Rating with ratingValue), author (Person or Organization), reviewBody and datePublished. Review schema combined with AggregateRating powers Google's star ratings in search results and influences AI citation of reviewed products and services.

Review vs AggregateRating

Review schema marks up individual reviews. AggregateRating summarizes multiple reviews into a single rating (with ratingCount, ratingValue and bestRating). Most sites need both: AggregateRating on the product/service page summarizing all reviews, plus individual Review blocks for the actual review content.

Where to use it

Product pages, service pages, agency pages, software review pages, comparison articles. Self-reviews (reviewing your own product) are prohibited by Google's structured data policy and risk manual action.

Critical fields

itemReviewed (with the right type), reviewRating with ratingValue and bestRating, author (Person preferred), datePublished and reviewBody. Add aggregateRating on the parent product/service page summarizing all reviews.
